Senior Front-End Web Developer
The Office of Communications and Marketing at the University of Tennessee (UT), Knoxville, seeks applications and nominations for the position of Senior Front-End Web Developer. This position develops and maintains interfaces for the university’s flagship website (utk.edu) and other digital products using primarily HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and the WordPress CMS framework.

The Office of Communications and Marketing is dedicated to advancing the university’s reputation. The division comprises several cross-functional teams, employing more than 50 full-time professionals with expertise in design, development, video production, content strategy, feature writing, editing, marketing, media relations, internal communication, and special events.

Duties/Responsibilities
- Serves as lead front-end developer and key contributor developing, maintaining, and improving custom digital interfaces for the university’s flagship website (utk.edu) and other digital products, using primarily HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
- Develops, implements, and supports software solutions demonstrating an expert understanding of interactive design principles, ensuring products reflect the university’s existing brand guidelines
- Analyzes technical problems, proposes solutions, and implements strategies and solutions for front-end development methods, tooling, and processes
- Performs QA/QC reviews of front-end code to optimize performance and user experience
- Adheres to consistent web development and accessibility standards
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Advanced knowledge of HTML, CSS, and other web languages, particularly PHP and JavaScript
- Advanced knowledge of web standards, including web accessibility standards
- Ability to develop and program within CMS frameworks such as WordPress
- Ability to work with web server configurations, particularly for WordPress
- Ability to work with MySQL databases
- Ability to work with API integrations
- Ability to develop WordPress themes and plugins
- Knowledge of CSS pre-processors
- Ability to work with the Git version control system
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to act professionally and represents the office in interactions with clients, including upper-level administration
Qualifications
Required:
- Associates degree
- At least five years of professional experience directly related to duties and responsibilities specified
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree
- At least five years of professional experience directly related to website development
Salary
The hiring range for this position is MR10. Salary is dependent on qualifications and experience.
