The Annual Conference Designer works as part of the Conference Committee, on the Marketing and Communications team, to develop the conference creative identity and design the conference collateral as part of the larger branded suite.

Responsibilities

Before the conference

  • Collaborate with contracted designer to develop a visual identity guide for the conference (fonts, logo, colors, etc.)
  • Develop base wireframe and style prototype for conference website.
  • Design all collateral needed to market the conference, which could include:
    • Web ads and badges
    • Social media promotions (such as Facebook frames)
    • Swag / giveaways
    • Name badges
    • Display slides
    • Signage for conference and sessions 
    • Marketing email design
    • Mobile app design
  • Work with Event and Premiums Coordinator to finalize designs for any needed swag/giveaways.
  • Promote the conference through personal social media and professional networks.

At the conference

  • Assist with conference setup (AV, bag stuffing, etc.).
  • Attend all committee meetings.
  • Develop ad hoc signage, slides or other materials to support ongoing communication efforts.

After the conference

  • Ensure all design files and related files are archived within the conference project management site for future reference.

General

  • Facilitate an environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.

Qualifications

Required

  • Proven design skills, for both print and digital.
  • Membership in the Association (including free general membership), which can be fulfilled at application.
  • Familiarity with the Association.
  • Ability to adhere to deadlines.

Preferred

  • Proven experience creating and working with a brand platform.
  • Past volunteer experience.
  • Knowledge of inclusive design practices.
  • Ability to work with project management/team communication platforms such as Slack, Clickup, etc.
  • Google Drive proficiency.

Estimated time commitment

  • The designer is expected to virtually attend scheduled Conference Committee and other scheduled team meetings.
  • The time commitment for committee work varies depending on cycle, with a minimum of 3 hours per month and a peak commitment of  20 hours per month (attendance at the Annual Conference notwithstanding).

Length of appointment

One Annual Conference season (usually November – November)

Conference attendance

Annual conference attendance is expected. Conference registration fee is waived for this position.
