The Digital Collegium Volunteer Committee leads the development of initiatives and activities to inform, engage, and celebrate the volunteers that power the Association. The committee is also responsible for assisting other Association committees in recruiting new volunteers.

The Vice Chair works with the Chair to help lead week-to-week operations for the Volunteer Committee. This includes being a leader and sounding board for committee members, keeping the committee organized through Slack, Google Drive, and ClickUp, aiding recruitment efforts, and supporting the broader volunteer community.

This role is a fantastic leadership opportunity and ideal for someone who loves bringing people together and helping them grow. You will have a variety of opportunities to network, learn new skills, participate in strategy discussions, and support the Digital Collegium community.

The Vice Chair is trained for and typically becomes the next committee Chair at the end of their term.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a committee leader to help manage volunteer operations.
  • Assist the Chair in planning for and running monthly committee meetings.
    • Ensure meeting notes are taken and shared.
    • Discuss agenda items with the Chair, and help with related documentation.
    • Coordinate with the Chair for setting meeting and action item reminders.
  • Assign tasks in the project management software and follow up with committee members who may need support or more time to complete tasks.
  • Aid in volunteer outreach, recruitment strategies, and onboarding as needed.
  • Serve in place of the Chair as needed.
  • Facilitate an environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.

Qualifications

Required

  • Familiar with the Association and the workings of the committees that make up the Association.
  • Demonstrates ability to engage diverse communities and build relationships.
  • Strong organization, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Thinks beyond the Volunteer Committee, and thinks in terms of Association goals.
  • Membership in the Association, which can be fulfilled at application. (Free general membership for higher education professionals would meet this requirement.)

Preferred

  • Skilled in project management, including how to plan and execute projects with a team.
  • Previous service on a Digital Collegium committee, or committee of a similar nature at their institution.
  • Demonstrates ability and willingness to listen, take the initiative, and inspire others.
  • Supports orderly procedures for conducting work.
  • Ability to work with team communication platforms like Slack.
  • Proficiency with ClickUp or similar project management tools.
  • Proficiency with Google Drive or similar file management tools.

(Training is provided for all software or systems committee members may use.)

Estimated Time Commitment

  • Committee members are expected to virtually attend monthly meetings, which are up to 1 hour, once per month.
  • Additionally, this role may require a minimum of 2-3 hours per month for regular committee work, with a peak time commitment of 4-6 hours per month depending on the projects of the month.

Length of Appointment

Up to two years as Vice Chair with the expectation to become Chair.

Conference Attendance

Annual and/or regional conference attendance is not required but is highly encouraged. Conference registration is not waived for this position.
