Volunteer Committee: Onboarding and Welcome Coordinator

The Digital Collegium Volunteer Committee leads the development of initiatives and activities to inform, engage, and celebrate the volunteers that power Digital Collegium. The committee is also responsible for assisting other Digital Collegium committees in recruiting new volunteers.

The Onboarding and Welcome Coordinator works with the Executive Director and committee chairs to welcome new volunteers to Digital Collegium and promote volunteering to our broader membership. This is a rewarding experience and a great entry point for professionals new to Digital Collegium or volunteering. You’ll have the opportunity to network, learn new skills, participate in strategy discussions, and support the Digital Collegium community.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome new volunteers to Digital Collegium via promotion in Slack and personal outreach.
  • Help keep the lists of committee members up-to-date on the Digital Collegium website.
  • Aid in volunteer outreach, recruitment strategies, and onboarding as needed.
  • Virtually attend monthly committee meetings.
  • Participate in committee discussions during meetings or in between meetings via Slack.
  • Share feedback on projects fellow committee members are working on.
  • Facilitate an environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.

Qualifications

Required

  • Membership in Digital Collegium, which can be fulfilled at application. (Free general membership for higher education professionals would meet this requirement.)
  • Editing experience with website content management systems like WordPress.
  • Strong organization, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to satisfactorily complete tasks in a timely manner (or communicate in advance if help or more time is needed).

Preferred

  • Ability to engage diverse communities and build relationships.
  • Ability to work with team communication platforms like Slack.
  • Proficiency with ClickUp or similar project management tools.
  • Proficiency with Google Drive.

(Training is provided for all software or systems committee members may use.)

Estimated Time Commitment

  • Committee members are expected to virtually attend monthly meetings, which are up to 1 hour, once per month.
  • Additionally, this role may require a minimum of 2-3 hours per month for regular committee work for most of the year, with a peak time commitment of 4-6 hours per month around the Annual Conference and Volunteer Fair, where we typically receive an influx of volunteers.

Length of Appointment

Up to two years, with the option to renew.

Conference Attendance

Annual and/or regional conference attendance is not required, and conference registration is not waived for this position.
