HighEdWeb Volunteer Committee members are responsible for assisting other association and conference committees in recruiting, developing and managing volunteers.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate with Volunteer Committee chair and members to determine the best marketing and communication activities to promote volunteering as well as volunteer events and news.
- Attend all committee meetings and provide insight into how best the committee can collaborate to promote opportunities and initiatives for the Association.
- Implements email and social media campaigns, provides content for the volunteer website and Link Journal, and develops printed publications — with support from designers, video editors and writers.
- Contributes to the editorial content calendar as a way to coordinate with other committees.
- Submits volunteer related content for the monthly Association newsletter.
- Monitors / posts, announcements in the #heweb-volunteer Slack channel as needed.
- Serves as a liaison to the Marketing and Communications Committee and actively attends their meetings.
Qualifications
Required
- Membership in the association, which can be fulfilled at application. (Free general membership for higher education professionals would meet this requirement.)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience as a marketing, social media, or communications coordinator for an organization or business.
- Understanding of organizational branding and how best to communicate ideas and initiatives.
- Strong organization, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Ability to satisfactorily complete tasks in a timely manner.
Preferred
- Experience with volunteer recruitment and development.
- Work experience in a marketing, communications, or public relations environment.
- Ability to produce content, strategies and social media posts.
- Ability to work with project management/team communication platforms such as Slack, Clickup, etc.
- Google Drive proficiency.
- Proficiency with email marketing software or CRM systems.
Estimated time commitment
- Committee members are expected to virtually attend monthly meetings.
- Additionally, committee members could be expected to complete 1-1.5 hours monthly of committee work on their own to work on committee projects.
Time commitment
2 years, with option to renew for up to 3 consecutive terms

Committee members who reliably serve on this committee would be eligible to serve as a committee chair.
Conference Attendance
Annual and/or regional conference attendance is not required, and conference registration is not waived for this position.
