The program vice chair works directly with the chair and the committee to develop a program for the summit and for recruiting and identifying suitable speakers.
Responsibilities
General
- Facilitate an environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
Before the summit
Works with the program chair to:
- Solicit presenters for the summit, particularly focusing on their field or area of interest/expertise.
- Complete at least one targeted outreach activity to recruit diverse presenters.
- Promote the Call for Proposals and participate in general communications efforts as it affects the program
- Read and rates all proposals submitted by potential presenters
- Schedules sessions, including community group discussions
- Send acceptances and confirmation emails to presenters
- Communicate with presenters leading up to the summit about presentation and summit details
- Gather other information from presenters, including headshots and other promotional information
During the summit
- Assist with conference setup
- Attend all committee meetings
- Confirm that all presenters have arrived
- Secure release form signature(s)
- Confirm URL for a slide presentation if available
- Ensure session moderation and introductions are staffed
- Report any technical difficulty for assistance
- Encourage completion of evaluation forms from session attendees
After the summit
- Send thank yous to summit presenters
- Distribute session evaluation results to summit presenters
Qualifications
Required
- Membership in Digital Collegium, which can be fulfilled at application. (Free general membership for higher education professionals would meet this requirement.)
- A detail oriented person that can stay on top of multiple responsibilities
- Strong communication skills
Preferred
- Previous experience managing a program of a professional event
- Close association with the accessibility community with a knowledge of the leaders in the field
Estimated time commitment
- As a member of the planning committee, this position is expected to virtually attend monthly meetings
- The time commitment for committee work varies, with a minimum of 1-2 hours per month and a peak commitment of 1 hour/day the developing the program and recruiting speakers for the summit
- There will be several hours required after the summit managing and communicating the evaluations and sending out thank you notes to speakers
Length of appointment
One Accessibility Summit planning season (typically 12-18 months) as vice chair with the expectation to become program chair once that position is vacated.

Accessibility Summit attendance is required. Accessibility Summit registration is waived for this position.
