Membership Committee: Slack Community Manager

Digital Collegium operates a Slack workspace that serves as a network for members to discuss and exchange ideas on different topics, share opportunities and meet each other. Slack Community Managers serve as official contact points for the Slack workspace, and they document, promote and nurture the network.

Responsibilities

  • Grow and nurture a vibrant online community of members within Slack
  • Create and manage programs to drive Slack engagement and brand awareness 
  • Answer member questions (or connect members to the appropriate person/committee)
  • Post team-wide communication and announcements in the #announcements channel, according to the DigiCol Announcements Channel Guidelines
  • Monitor the emoji-voting channel and add install new Slack emoji when appropriate
  • Monitor Slack channels for inactivity and retire channels not activity within last 90 days
  • Review Slack invitations from existing members and approve eligible members
  • Ensure members follow the Code of Conduct and collaborate with the @Safety Slack account when necessary.
  • Maintain and promote Slack documentation, onboarding process and profile guidelines.
  • Facilitate an environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.

Qualifications

Required

  • Membership in the association, which can be fulfilled at application. (Free general membership for higher education professionals would meet this requirement.)
  • Knowledge and experience using the Slack platform
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Ability and time to monitor Slack on a schedule (in cooperation with other Slack Community Managers)

Preferred

  • Experience serving as a Slack administrator
  • Video or graphic production expertise
  • Knowledge of community management best practices

Estimated time commitment

  • Volunteers should be available for monthly committee meetings. 
  • The time commitment for this position varies from 4-8 hours per month.

Length of appointment

2 years, with option to renew for up to 3 consecutive terms

Conference attendance

Annual/regional conference attendance isn’t required/expected. Conference registration isn’t waived for this position.
