Augustana’s EDGE Center is teaching the next generation of digital communication professionals through high impact experiential learning. Starting with teaching students website development in 1997, the learning opportunities have expanded greatly over the 25+ years. Most attendees at this conference work in higher education, but how often do we all get to be involved in the actual education of the students we serve? Learn about this program and take one of the ideas and shape it to make a difference on your campus. The center focuses on the large variety of skills used by professionals in the digital industry: graphic design, code, writing, photography, video production, social media, marketing strategy, project management, customer communication and team dynamics. We also throw in conference management just for fun. All of this is offered to students through six “official” student groups and a variety of internships. The internships are mostly unpaid, with a mix of for-credit and not-for-credit options. The six groups all offer different opportunities and some students participate in multiple groups. Three of the groups are affiliated with national organizations and three are homegrown.
