The success of any organization depends on the effective management of its teams. However, silos can often develop within teams, creating barriers to communication and collaboration. Our Student Affairs Marketing and Communications team grew exponentially in the past year — from 0.5 to 6 members and each with a different reporting structure — which presented some challenges but also opportunities for collaboration and sharing insights and resources. In addition, being a marketing professional in a non-marketing organization is challenging, especially if you’re flying solo. In most instances, our team members are folks well-versed in their subject matter, but might not understand or be aware of marketing principles and tactics.
Through the Marketing Support Group, we have been able to onboard these new team members, enhance collaboration between teams, share resources and most importantly, provide a much-needed support network.
In this session, we will talk about our journey and share what we’ve learned throughout this process, and provide tips and advice you can apply to manage your teams effectively and eliminate silos.
