Demystifying Web Accessibility Standards

With the recent release of WCAG standards, web accessibility is more vital than ever before. And while Higher Education has made great strides, there are still many challenges associated with ensuring we are compliant with ADA standards.

In this session, we will openly discuss the gray area we find ourselves in with WCAG and share how we’ve tackled higher education specific challenges with real world solutions. We’ll cover:

  • How to effectively translate high-impact WCAG standards and what the intended user experience should be for those with disabilities.
  • Finding the balance between modern web designs and the latest accessibility standards.
  • Making accessibility a part of projects from their inception so content, design, and implementation provide the best user experience.
  • Positioning your website and its available content to mitigate accessibility issues in common areas.
  • Providing value to accessibility work through an increase in search engine optimization resulting from improvements, whether it be code-level or content-level.
